What changed on 29 September 2026
The White House signed an executive order called Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence. It tells every US federal department and agency to use the words "Super Intelligence" and "SI" instead of "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI" in their communications, websites, reports and policy documents.
- Same meaning. The order defines SI as the same technologies already covered by the legal definition of artificial intelligence.
- Government only. Private companies are not forced to rename anything. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity are still the same tools.
- A federal definition is coming. The science adviser has 60 days to propose legal wording for "Super Intelligence".
