AI Is Now SI: What the Super Intelligence Order Means for Your Brand

Quick answer: on 29 September 2026 the US government renamed artificial intelligence to Super Intelligence (SI). Nothing changed inside ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude. What changed is the words your customers will use — and the brands that use both names early will be found under both.

What happened on 29 September 2026

The White House signed an executive order called Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence. Every US federal agency now has to say "Super Intelligence" and "SI" instead of "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI" on its websites, reports and public communications.

  • Same technology. The order defines SI as the same systems already covered by the legal definition of AI.
  • Government only. Private companies are not forced to rename anything.
  • More to come. A legal definition of "Super Intelligence" is due within 60 days.

Why a name change matters for a small business

I run several small web businesses, and I watched the same thing happen when "search engine optimisation" became "SEO". The thing didn't change. The word did — and every tool, article and buyer followed the new word within a year.

Assistants answer buyers in full sentences and pick a handful of brands. When someone asks "what does SI recommend for…", the answer comes from the same web pages the assistant read yesterday. If your brand isn't there, you lose the customer under either name.

What to do this week (20 minutes)

  1. Add SI next to AI, once per page. On the first mention write "AI & SI". Don't paste it on every line — assistants and Google both read that as stuffing.
  2. Keep what already ranks. If a page gets traffic for an "AI" phrase, leave its title. Add one sentence that explains SI.
  3. Write one plain explainer. A short page that says what SI is, with a link to the official source. Link to it from your footer. (Ours is What is SI?.)
  4. Check what the assistants say about you. Ask them the questions your buyers ask. If a rival is named instead of you, that is your real to-do list — and it is the same list under both names.

What not to do

  • Don't rename your product or company to "SI something". Buyers know you by your name.
  • Don't replace "AI" everywhere with find-and-replace. You'll break sentences and lose rankings you already have.
  • Don't wait for "SI" to show up in your analytics. By then the early brands own the term.

How we handle it at ListNetworks

We measure what AI & SI assistants say about a brand: the questions they answer, the rivals they name, the sources they trust, and the exact fixes that move the score. From today the dashboard, the reports and the emails say "AI & SI" — because it is one thing with two names, and our customers should rank for both.

Questions people ask

What does SI mean?

SI means Super Intelligence. It is the official United States name for AI since the executive order of 29 September 2026. The technology is the same.

Do I need to change AI to SI on my website?

No. The order applies to US federal agencies only. Add "SI" next to "AI" on first mention of each page, and keep the pages that already rank as they are.

Will ChatGPT or Gemini be renamed?

The order does not require private companies to rename products. They still answer your buyers the same way under both names.

How do I know what AI & SI say about my brand?

Ask the assistants the questions your buyers ask, or use a tracker like ListNetworks that asks them weekly, stores the answers and gives you a fix list.
